# Get started as a doctor or therapist (/docs/en/get-started/for-doctors)

As a clinician you see patients, document each contact, keep the patient's record accurate and sign your visits. Salisan gives you the **Member** role by default, which is built for this work. Your decisions stay your own: the Agent and every draft only prepare text for you to review.

## Your first week [#first-week]

1. Accept your invitation and finish your profile, then set up two-factor protection. See [Join your practice](/docs/en/get-started/join-your-practice) and [Account and security](/docs/en/get-started/account-and-security#two-factor). About 10 minutes.
2. Learn the sidebar and Home. See [Find your way around](/docs/en/get-started/find-your-way-around). About 10 minutes.
3. Open **Patients**, which lists the patients on your care team. Open one and read the **Record** page. See [Patients](/docs/en/guides/patients#find). About 10 minutes.
4. Start a visit with **Start visit** on Home or in the patient bar, and write the note. See [Visits and notes](/docs/en/guides/visits#start). About 10 minutes.
5. Press / in the note to capture an allergy, diagnosis, medication or reading, then choose **Add … to the record**. Read [Saved, recorded and signed](/docs/en/get-started/saved-recorded-signed) first. About 10 minutes.
6. Choose **Sign** and confirm. A visit you leave open waits in **To sign** in the sidebar, where **Sign & next** works through the queue. See [To sign](/docs/en/guides/to-sign#sign). About 5 minutes.
7. Try dictation with **Transcribe audio** inside a note, and review the transcript before you rely on it. See [Transcription](/docs/en/guides/transcription#record). About 15 minutes.
8. Ask the Agent to draft a letter or prepare you for a visit, and review what it writes. See [The Agent and you](/docs/en/get-started/agent-and-you) and [The Agent](/docs/en/guides/agent#ask). About 10 minutes.

## What you can and can't do [#permissions]

With the default **Member** role you can:

* Create patients, and open and edit the patients on whose care team you are. A patient you create is added to your care team automatically.
* Read and write the clinical records of those patients, start visits and sign them.
* Read and manage the calendars of colleagues in your teams, and book appointments.
* Send email, forms and requests to your patients, and use templates and the content library.
* Create tasks, claim unassigned ones and view Insights.
* Use the Agent.

You can't:

* Open patients who are not on your care team. Ask a colleague who can assign patients to add you.
* Invite people, change roles or teams, or change practice settings or billing.
* Create or publish templates, or activate Marketplace content for the practice.

An **Admin** or **Owner** who also treats patients has access to every patient and every clinical record. If something you expect is missing, see [Roles and access](/docs/en/get-started/roles-and-access) and [a missing button, page or setting](/docs/en/troubleshooting/missing-option).

## Keep learning [#keep-learning]

Continue with the **Clinician essentials** course in Learn. Start with its first lesson on [the patient chart](/docs/en/learn/clinician-chart), or see the [Learn overview](/docs/en/learn/index).
