# Documents (/docs/en/guides/documents)

**Documents** in the sidebar holds your practice's own files, folders and written documents, such as protocols, price lists or meeting notes. A patient's files and letters belong in that patient's record instead. See [Patient documents](/docs/en/guides/patient-documents).

Every item lives in one library, and the library decides who can see it. Check the library before you add or move anything.

## Find a document [#browse]

The left side lists the libraries you can open:

* **My documents** is private to you.
* **Organization** is for everyone in the practice.
* **Teams** has one library for each team you belong to.
* **Shared with me** holds items a colleague has shared with you.

Each row shows a badge for who can see it: private, shared, team or organization. Use **Filter by name…** to search, **Sort** by **Name** or **Recent**, and the type filters **Docs**, **Images**, **PDFs** and **Sheets** to narrow the list.

Choose a row to open it. **Details** shows the location, size, who uploaded it and when. A document also shows its earlier **Versions**, and you can restore one. Restoring adds the old text as a new version and removes nothing.

## Add files and documents [#add]

1. Open the library and folder where the item belongs.
2. Choose **New**.
3. Choose **Upload files**, **New document** or **New folder**.

You can also drop files onto the page to upload them to the open folder. If you cannot see **New**, you do not have permission to add to that library.

After an upload, Salisan reads the file in the background so the Agent can use it. Nothing shows while that happens. If the Agent cannot read a file, a small warning mark appears beside its name; open **Details** and choose **Try again**. Files that cannot be previewed can be downloaded.

## Share a personal document [#share]

Only the owner can share, and only items in **My documents**. Items in **Organization** and team libraries follow the library's audience instead.

1. Open the item's menu and choose **Share**.
2. Under **Add a colleague**, pick the person and choose **Can view** or **Can edit**.
3. Choose **Share with** and the number of people.

**Who has access** lists everyone who can open it, and **Remove access** takes someone off. Sharing a folder shares what is inside it. **Copy link** gives a link that works only for people who already have access.

Owners and admins can manage the Organization and team libraries, but they cannot open someone's **My documents** unless the owner shares the item.

## Move an item [#move]

Choose **Move**, then pick the library and folder under **Move to**. The dialog warns who will be able to see the item afterwards.

<Callout type="warn">
 Moving an item to **Organization** lets everyone in the practice see it. Moving it to a team library lets everyone in that team see it. Check the warning before you choose **Move file**.
</Callout>

To move an item to a different library you need full management of the item and edit access to the destination library.

## Delete an item [#delete]

Choose **Delete** from the item's menu.

<Callout type="warn">
 Deleting permanently removes the item and anything inside a folder. There is no undo, so check the name in the confirmation first.
</Callout>
